  • New Song I'm Writing

    Helplessly Following

    Verse 1

    When is there a time

When ticking clocks are not alive

When is there a silence when no one speaks

And when is there a day

A single day that passes by

When I don’t think of you, it can’t exist

    Prechorus

I just can’t get you out of my head

I just can’t get you out of my head

    Chorus

    Because I’m helplessly following

All the while swallowing the fact that I just might be led astray
    And I’m aimlessly stumbling

Head over heels I’m tumbling into the trap that you have carefully laid

    That you have carefully laid

    Verse 2

    If I try to run

I’ll run and soon I’ve lost my breath

Because you never fail to take my breath away

    Then every time I stare

I stare right through your lying eyes

I think next time I run I’ll stay away

But I just can’t get you out of my head

I just can’t get you out of my head

    Chorus

    Because I’m helplessly following

All the while swallowing the fact that I just might be led astray
    And I’m aimlessly stumbling

Head over heels I’m tumbling into the trap that you have carefully laid

    That you have carefully laid

My life is a bit crazayyy.

Hello everyone. (everyone being the possibly 3 people that still use xanga.)

My life has been a bit crazy lately. Two things have been completely consuming my time. The first one I am absolutely sick of, and the second I am absolutely in love with.

    NUMBER ONE: marching band.

I am so sick of marching band. I have been a part of this lovely extra-curricular activity for four long years, and I am very done with it. Color guard has a coach this year that is less than desirable, and the practices and performances are taking up all of my time to do anything. I love everyone in marching band, and I love hanging out with them, but it has become my life, and I am praying that our football team will not advance so that I can have my life back.

    NUMBER TWO: chasing daylight.

I am so in love with Chasing Daylight. This is the band I am in. We have practices, meetings, and hang outs at least twice a week, and multiple sleepovers throughout the months. It is so exciting to be a part of this band, because we're really good, and we have shows coming up. We are all such good friends, and when we're together there's a lot of unique talent. My favorite thing to do right now is to just write music with the band, and watch a song come together that was never in the world before. After a month of being together, we already have two awesome songs that we've written and arranged. When marching band is over, I will be so excited to focus my music career completely on the band.

So, I guess the point of this blog was to just give you an update on my life. In the midst of all of this craziness, God is my rock. He is the center of my crazy life, although it's very hard to keep Him there. In a situation like this, it is SO easy to let music become my number one priority, but I have been working very hard at spending time with God. Reading my Bible, worshiping when I'm driving in my car somewhere, spending time in prayer, and living like Jesus. God has been opening so many doors for me lately, that life never seems to slow down. Every day is exciting, and comes with new opportunities.

I always had my heart set on being a teacher, and that will most likely be where I'm heading for the future, but I am beginning to wonder. It all started with a word of knowledge that my youth pastor gave me. He said that if I was willing, God would use my talents in ways I had never dreamed of. He said that in front of everyone one night at youth group, which was kind of embarrassing because I didn't want to seem prideful or whatever. Nevertheless, I went on to do really well in Songwriting at Fine Arts, and then I started writing music with Molly that is being taken to Nashville to be considered for an album. Now I'm in this band where other opportunities are being presented. God keeps opening doors for me, and every time I finish one thing, another door opens. To be in the music industry would be my absolute dream. It would be the best job in the world. Writing music is by far my favorite thing to do. But... I have to be realistic. I realize that there are a lot of people with talent that never make it in the music business. I realize that the chances of me making it in the music industry are slim. Which is why I plan on being a teacher. But, if this is what God wants me to do, He'll make it happen.

    Either way, we'll see.

Let me know if you're still alive on xanga!

  • Our First Show!

So, if you didn't know, I'm in a band. And we're called Chasing Daylight. And we had our first show today! It was at the Birmingham Arts Festival, and we had a ton of fun (despite the on and off rain).

    Our band is as follows:

    Jessica Fortner - Keyboard, vocals
Alex Rahill - Bass, acoustic guitar, vocals
    Courtney Frieze - Violin, vocals
    Dallas Brokenshire - Drums
Caleb Frieze - Electric guitar, vocals
    Molly Hunt - Lead vocals

(And then Megan is our manager type person. She's pretty cool.)

Molly sang at the Art in the Park Fair last year by herself and had an AWESOME stage. We were expecting to have the same stage... but it was under construction. So we got a tent that took up 1 1/2 parking spaces.... but that's okay. We could have started off in a coffee shop. Starting off at an arts festival is not bad for a first gig. Anyways, we performed 4 songs: Typical by Mute Math, Saturday Afternoon written by yours truly, If It Means A Lot To You by A Day To Remember, and Wrapped in Your Arms by Firefly. Again... we had a great time. We're going to be practicing every week now, working on writing some original music, practicing some new covers, and getting some new gigs. If you're in town, you should come listen to us play some music!

In the meantime, here's some photos from today's performance.
I'll put the video of Saturday Afternoon up soon.

^Some of our happy fans :)

About Me

  • My name is Jessica, and I love my crazy life! I'm color guard captain, I take piano lessons, I'm curently in three different choirs, on two different worship teams, I love making music videos and random movies... pretty much any kind of performing, I'm there! I use my talents for God, the best way to use them, and he has proven faithful to me in every situation. If God wasn't in my life, there's no way I could deal with all the stress! I love all my friends, they are so awesome, and they all help me to get closer to God. I have a wonderful boyfriend named Joshua, and he is truly a blessing sent from God. I'm open to new friends, so come and chat!
